What shall we do with the grumpy Nene?

*Just for your information, I find the headline works best if you sing it to the tune of What Shall we do with the Drunken Sailor. At least, that's what I've been doing all afternoon.

On Saturday night Barcelona picked up what is surely the biggest title they've won in recent seasons, the Trophee de Paris.

They claimed the prestigious, sought-after prize 4-1 on penalties after a thrilling hard-fought 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. The visitors had taken a 2-0 lead through Rafinha and Leo Messi (pen), but PSG hit back through Zlatan Ibrahimovic (pen) and Zoumana Camara to take the tie to spot-kicks, where the man from Catalonia prevailed. Having achieved such success so early, new Barca boss Tito Vilaneuva has set himself a high bar for the forthcoming season.

One man who wasn't around for the shoot-out was Nene. According to reports the Brazilian left the stadium at half-time, apparently angry at having been substituted. To put this into context, Nene was one of five players who got the hook at the break as Carlo Ancelotti, quite reasonably, decided to take a look at as many players as possible in his team's last friendly before the start of the season. According to the Parisien, this latest diva-strop came just 24 hours after he turned up late for a training session.

Fits of pique have always been part and parcel of Nene's game, his suspect temperament is one of the things that makes him one of Ligue 1's most entertaining characters. He gets away with acting like a bit of a brat because his output on the pitch is impressive - last season he was joint top-scorer in Ligue 1, bagging 21 goals and contributing 11 assists in 35 games. That he's not an out-and-out striker makes those stats all the more impressive and, like most PSG supporters, I am a massive fan of his mad skilz.

But all good things must come to an end and, much as it saddens me to write this, I believe that it's time for a club and player to part ways.

Nene's mood seems to have been getting increasingly bad over the summer, with the thorny issue of his contract causing him some distress. His current deal expires next year and the club seem unkeen to offer an extension to a player who will be 32 by the end of the season. Now if I was in charge I would just give him a two-year extension to keep him quiet - what's the point of being filthy rich if you can't indulge your star players? But given that the hierarchy seem unwilling to do that, perhaps because he isn't the kind of massive name that will sell shirts in the Far East, we have to assume that we will either be selling him or keeping an unhappy player.

The PSG squad this season contains more than it's fair share of ego. The likes of Zlatan, Menez, and Sakho are certainly not shrinking violets, and dressing room strife is probably one of the biggest threats to our chances of winning the league. An unhappy Nene increases the likelihood of a bust-up, and it seems unlikely that buggering off home at half-time will have endeared him to his team-mates.

And while his stats are impressive, they are perhaps a little misleading. It's well-known that he doesn't really turn up away from home - 18 of his 21 goals last year came at the Parc - and he only scored once in matches against the top five, a penalty at Lyon in that memorable 4-4 draw at the Stade Gerland. A outstanding Ligue 1 player, but is he likely to make an impact in the big games against the teams the new PSG now measure themselves against? I'd say probably not.

As I say, I'm gutted that I'm even thinking this, and my ideal scenario would be that he signs a new contract, accepts that the world of PSG isn't going to revolve around him anymore, and plays a big part in the team for the next few seasons. At the same time I understand why he might not be happy with that either- after all he has done nothing to deserve being demoted below Ibra, Lavezzi et al.

But sadly with the way the club is now I have a horrible feeling that Nene's time at PSG is destined to end on a sour note. Perhaps it would be better for all concerned if he left now as a hero, with memories of two superb seasons still fresh in the mind, rather than in a few months time with everyone feeling bitter.

The Rumour Mill: WAGs "confirm" Napoli striker move as PSG eye raids on AC Milan and Tottenham

The Pastores pose (left), while Yanina (right) will be able to afford a new poncho if Lavezzi's move goes through
Now that Paris St-Germain have aspirations to become one of Europe's elite football clubs, the players wives and girlfriends will have to up their game accordingly.

Expect fake tan, stupid clothes, and "exclusives" aplenty for Paris Match and the other gossip mags. You may remember we've met Jeremy Menez's WAG previously, but apparently she wasn't invited to this little get-together of the club's latino contingent. In fairness those ladies look reasonably classy, so probably wouldn't want a reality TV star pouting about the place.

Anyway, Mrs Javier Pastore, aka model Chiara Picone, has been busy breaking hot transfer gossip this weekend thanks to a tweet she sent to Yanina Screpante, beau of another Argentinian star, Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi.

PSG have been heavily linked with an €27million move for Lavezzi in recent weeks, and it appears the deal has now been sealed: "I’m happy you are coming to Paris. We’re waiting for you and we’ll spend some fun times together," said Picone. The mind boggles

Ex-Napoli star Roberto Sosa has also confirmed the deal will go ahead: "Chatting to Lavezzi via text messages, I found out the news I hoped to the end I would not receive: the agreement with Paris Saint-Germain is done,” he reported gravely. Seems like there should be some movement in the next few days.

Elsewhere in Italy, there are now only two AC Milan squad members remaining that PSG haven't been linked with, as Les Rouges-et-Bleu are said to have made enquiries about Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva. Needless to say both would be amazing signings, but neither is going to happen, and indeed Ibra is apparently not too keen on moving his massive ego to a club which he considers beneath him. It's probably for the best, we don't want the Swede unleashing his Taekwondo skills on poor incompetents like Siaka Tiene.

Speaking of Tiene, he and Zoumana Camara both want to stay at the Parc, and with both being under contract for another year they may get their wish, though I saw a story the other day linking Tiene with Sunderland, so fingers crossed they might take him off our hands. Meanwhile Diego Lugano could be returning to former club Fenerbache according to Turkish paper Milliyet, where he could be joined by Kevin Gameiro.

Finally for now, Ancelotti is apparently raising his eye-brow in the direction of Tottenham's Luke Modric, a player he coveted during his Chelsea days. It's questionable whether PSG need another midfielder, and if we do put in a bid we could face competition from another ex-Blues boss, Real Madrid's Jose Mourinho.

Ups and downs, draws and defeats, comings and goings

The PSG players have been very busy on their pre-season tour of Portugal.

Volleyball, swimming, and, er, rollercoasters have all been on the agenda judging by the photos on the official club site. With some much going on, winning football matches obviously hasn't been a priority, with a 3-1 defeat to Benfica recorded on Friday night followed by a 1-1 draw with Anderlecht on Saturday.

Nene got the only Parisien goal of the Benfica match with this rather delicious chip

While the Anderlecht game saw Kevin Gameiro find the net for the first time in red and blue with a header which was cancelled out in the second half.

There's little point reading too much into pre-season results in my opinion, but nevertheless I'm sure Kombouare will be hoping for a victory when his charges conclude their Iberian jaunt with a match against Brighton tomorrow (Wednesday).

Leonardo meanwhile has topped up his tan sufficiently and is back in Paris, ready to get the commence the les grandes manoeuvres du recrutement. It's difficult to summarise briefly all the players the PSG have been linked with in the last couple of days, but I'll have a go.

The club is reportedly upping it's bid for Ganso to €40million, and expects to complete the long mooted deal for Milan Bisevac this week for a fee in the region of €3.5million. Adel Taarabt is said to be packing his bags in preparation for a move to the capital while a bid of €7-8million could be on the way for Benfica defender Luisao.

I have to confess I know little about the 30-year-old Brazilian, but journalist and all-round European football guru Andy Brassell had some interesting stuff to say about him on Twitter yesterday:

"Insistent link of Luisão & PSG is an interesting one on a number of
levels. Yes, PSG need a dominant CB but a) can Benfica afford to
lose...

"...him so soon after shipping David Luiz & b) how long
will it take him to adjust to Ligue 1's physicality? Might be better off
with Bisevac..."

On their way out, according to Le Parisien, could be a few of the old guard. Jeremy Clement has been linked with a move all summer, and could end up as make-weight in a deal for St Etienne's Blaise Matuidi.

Centre back Zoumana Camara is likely to be off as well, while depending on which website you believe Marco Ceara wants to stay in Paris or has dispatched his agent to find new employers in his native Brazil. More likely to be at the club next season are Peggy Luyindula and Sylvain Armand, both of whom are said to be in Kombouare's plans.
